About Hazara

Our hand-spun, hand-woven carpets features natural dyes and are woven by Hazara weavers in Dasht-e Barchi–a large, but forgotten settlement accessible by only one road on the edge of Kabul, Afghanistan.

It is home to more than 750,000 Hazaras-the third largest people group in Afghanistan. There is no running water, electricity, or medical services found in the settlement. A result of hardship, Dasht-e Barchi is a mix of internally displaced and returning refugees, with 20% of all households being led by widows or orphans. Many households look to support themselves via carpet weaving, but toil under feudal-like arrangements, where carpet associations control distribution channels and pay minimal amounts for labor costs.

Our work with the Hazara weavers enables the weavers and staff to help themselves and others for the betterment of their households, their communities, their people and their nation.
